BIOGRAPHY
Tania Zountsa, a Greek saxophonist, composer, and improviser now based in Amsterdam, began her musical journey at the age of 9 with the guitar, displaying an early talent for song creation and an innate inclination toward improvisation.
She later pursued classical double bass studies at the State Conservatory of Greece for three years while simultaneously delving into saxophone lessons, instantly connecting with the instrument's sound and its intimate relationship with breath.
This led her to Brussels for private studies and eventually to the Netherlands to further her education. Returning to Greece for a period, Tania immersed herself in performances with various bands while continuing her studies at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki.
Since 2015, she has resided in the Netherlands, completing her BMus (Jazz & Pop Saxophone) at HKU Conservatory and MMus focusing further on composition.In 2021, she explored Music Therapy, deeply influenced by its therapeutic aspects in music and art.
With a profound interest in ancient cultures and rituals, Tania started her research concerning the ancient Greek music system. Her performances seamlessly blend contemporary melodies with echoes of ancient Greek musical heritage.
Her compositions display a mosaic of tonal colors and intricate rhythms, reflecting her profound comprehension of both traditional and unconventional musical forms.
Tania has been an active participant in numerous bands and projects across Europe, including the Netherlands, Greece, and Finland, she is performing and touring with several proects across Europe and in March 2025, performed with Finnish Iraqi orchestra, in collaboration with Iraqi symphony Orchestra at National theater in Bagdad.
She leads the ensemble Singularity Point, where she explores and experiments in composition and orchestration with different concepts she researches.She released her debut album "AWAKE" (2022) and "ASSEMBLAGES OF THE SELF" (2026) and currently preparing for the recording of the third album which is inspired by the lunar cycles.
Her primary focus revolves around projects generating original material, often centered in improvisation.In 2022, she received the Norma fund for her projects, MARUSKES and Lila Duo.With MARUSKES they commisioned to compose the music for the film that was part of Marguerite Humeau's exhibition \*sk\*/ey at ICA Miami (2025-2025) and also to create the music for Venus Requiem for Humaeu's exhibition Torches at Arken Museum in Copenhagen. MARUSKES recorded their first album which will be released on spring 2026.
Tania also actively engages in collaborations with diverse multidisciplinary artists, exploring the interplay between music and dance, as well as the fusion of music with visual arts, continues her research in these realms while actively participating in various ongoing projects.Currently, she is part of the vibrant artistic community at Treehouse, Ndsm in Amsterdam where she is also teaching at her studio.
